Mindful Walking — Group Practice Guidelines

Our group walks are a shared practice of presence, calm, and quiet connection. There is no right way to do this. You’re invited to participate in whatever way feels supportive for you.

1. Walking Together

  • We walk at a slow, comfortable pace that allows the group to stay connected

  • Please be mindful of the people around you

  • If you need to pause, adjust your pace, or step out, feel free to do so

This is a cooperative, non-competitive walk.

2. Silence and Gentle Awareness

  • We practice in silence or near-silence during the walk

  • Please silence phones and avoid conversation once the walk begins

  • If guidance is offered, treat it as an invitation, not a requirement

Silence helps create a shared field of calm and attentiveness.

3. Awareness While Walking

As you walk, you might gently notice:

  • The feeling of your feet touching the ground

  • The natural rhythm of your steps

  • Your breath moving in and out

  • The sensation of moving through space

If your attention drifts, simply return to the experience of walking.

4. Being with Thoughts and Emotions

Thoughts, emotions, and distractions may arise.

  • There’s nothing to fix or push away

  • Notice what arises with kindness

  • Gently bring attention back to the next step

This returning is the practice.

5. Walking with Others

  • Maintain a comfortable distance from the person in front of you

  • Allow everyone their own pace and experience

  • Avoid overt gestures or communication during the walk

We support one another by keeping the space simple and respectful.

6. Completing the Walk

At the end of the walk:

  • We pause briefly together

  • You’re welcome to remain quiet or to share reflections afterward, if the group chooses

There is no expectation to speak.

A Shared Intention

By walking mindfully together, we create a quiet space of presence, peace, and care—both for ourselves and for the wider community.
